No more paper PLF for passengers
October 04, 2021
Travellers returning from abroad after 30 September will no longer have the option of filling out a paper version of the Belgian Passenger Locator Form (PLF). Until recently travellers could either complete the form online or in print. As of now only the digital document is valid. The paper forms are said to overburden the administrative services. In addition, too many of the forms are illegible, making contact tracing that much harder.
However, supporting measures are in the works. For instance, airlines will provide assistance for travellers in filling out their electronic PLF. The ministerial decree also provides a two-week transition period.
The Ministry of Health points out other options are available for those who own neither a smartphone nor a computer:
- You can call on friends or relatives. The form remains available in electronic form: you can print the QR code received after filling out the form.
- The PLF no longer has to be filled out less than 48 hours prior to your return. This can be done up to 180 days in advance, which means you can complete the form online before your departure. The seat number for flights - something passengers usually find out just a few days or even hours before their departure - is now an optional field. According to the Ministry of Health the form can be also adjusted afterwards.
- You can call on the assistance of a travel agency.
- The Ministry of Health has stated it will also be possible to complete the form at desks at the airports.
