Quarantine-free Thailand reopened for tourists

October 25, 2021

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has confirmed that Thailand is all set to welcome fully vaccinated foreign visitors with no quarantine requirements from 1 November 2021.

On 21 October 2021, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha signed the entry guidelines for the quarantine-free reopening, published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette, along with two other announcements on relaxed COVID-19 controls in 17 Thai destinations.

Summary of the most important entry guidelines:

1. Travel by air from the approved countries. Currently, Thailand has approved quarantine-free entry for arrivals from, amongst others, all major Western European countries, Cambodia, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, the UAE, the US and Hong Kong. Travellers from the approved countries must have spent at least 21 days there.

2. Request a Certificate of Entry (COE) via https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

3. Obtain the following documents:

·       a negative RT-PCR test result issued no more than 72 hours prior to departure

·       an insurance policy providing minimum coverage of $50,000 in Covid-related medical expenses

·       a payment confirmation for a minimum one-night stay at an Alternative Quarantine hotel (AQ) or SHA Plus-certified hotel

·       this must include payment confirmation for the mandatory (second) RT-PCR test on arrival as well as an Antigen Test Kit (ATK)

·       proof of full vaccination. All vaccines approved in Belgium and the Netherlands meet the requirements and travellers must have received their final jab at least 14 days prior to departure. Travellers under 12 years of age are exempt from this vaccination requirement.

5. Upon arrival in Thailand proceed directly via the approved airport transfer to the prearranged COVID-19 test centre or the reserved accommodation and undergo the required second PCR test on day 0-1.

6. Download the Thai Covid app MorChana and wait alone inside the accommodation for the test result, which should be available within 24 hours.

7. Travellers who tested negative are subsequently free to visit any part of Thailand. Travellers exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms in the course of their stay must self-test immediately with the antigen test kit (ATK) provided at their initial accommodation. Non-symptomatic travellers must use the kit to self-test on day 6 or 7, upload the result in the MorChana app and pass it on to the hotel.
